PORTRAITS

Families, Kids, Couples, & even Pets

We love what we do!

Being a portrait photographer in Clarkston, we specialize not only in capturing memories for our clients, but printing those memories for clients to last a lifetime & beyond.

While there is nothing wrong with digital, we provide them to our portrait clients, the whole idea of taking 'family' portraits is to be reminded of the great life you have, surrounded by the ones you love.  Why not have them printed, and displayed for everyone to look at in your home?

We really get to know our clients and understand what they  are looking for from their session, and help them plan for where these portraits are going to be displayed in their home.  We can even help install their framed art in their home for them.

As the expression goes, “the days are long, but the years short”—time goes by so quickly and it’s essential to capture these beautiful moments before they’re gone.  Sessions take place on location in a special spot where your family can be comfortable and have fun—think a favorite park, field, backyard, beach or anywhere you just love. Add in some favorite clothes, a special prop or two, and even the family pet, and you’ve got a great session—and amazing pictures—you’ll love forever.

What are you going to wear?

What to Wear

Well it depends. Here are some things to consider!

Be Yourself!

Start with your own personal style. Think about the clothing styles you currently have and the stores where you normally shop. Wearing clothes that look good on you will ensure meaningful photographs thatare true reflections of who you are as individuals.

Location. Location. Location!

Consider the setting of where your shootwill take place. Will it be at the beach, the park, your home, or somewhere else? Imagine your setting and the types of colors that will be there. Since the setting will end up being the background of your photos, it has a big impact on your overall look. For example, if you plan to have the shoot at a garden, wearingfloral outfits might not be the best idea because you would blend in and get lost in the busy background. Ideally, you want to match the background, but not match so much that you become the background.

Colors

A good rule of thumb is to pick out two colors that would go well with the location. Typically, pastels (think peach, mint, or lavender) go well with natural scenes. Primary colors such as blue, red, and yellow match modern locations like the city.

Solids & Prints

Our eyes are naturally drawn to patterns, so dressing your kids in prints will help them to stand out. Playful prints such as stripes and polka dotslook great on kids. Dress the adults in complementary solids to balance the look.

Layering

Depending on the season, consider layering your outfits with accessories such as bowties, headbands, rain boots, scarves, jackets, and hats. Accessories add variety to your shots and can also double as fun props!

Types of Sessions

In-Studio Sessions

At our studio, we have a variety of backgrounds to work with as well as around the outside of our studio.  These range from the 'traditional'/distinguished looking portraits, to the more modern/fun (yet timeless) backgrounds.

You will see several examples and samples when you visit for your consultation.  We we get together, we will discuss what you hope to accomplish with the session.  It is through this session, I will gain an understanding of you goals, the type of session we are looking for, and more importantly - where these images will be displayed.

Many times for our clients, this may be the first time they have had formal photographs of themselves/family.  Don't worry!  It is with these types of initial conversations that will make you feel at ease when the session actually happens.  We will direct you through the session in a relaxed, stress free environment (even with young children involved...).

On-Location

Let's get out of the studio and find some fun, meaningful locations that are important to you and your family.

We have held sessions in some fun locations here in Clarkston and regionally.  Some fun ones include: Downtown Clarkston, Independence Oaks, & some secret locations off the grid.  As well as Downtown Detroit / Eastern Market area, Traverse City and the west side of the state in Holland.

So, if you have a specific location in mind - lets talk about it.  Or, if you need some suggestions - would love to help!
